Index rebuild

Everytime I restart my system,
I have to use Force rebuild otherwise the indexes will be empty.
I am using x64 beta version on windows 7 ultimate.

Are you using the Everything service? or are you running Everything with administrator privileges?

Please send the debug output when Everything starts:

• Completely exit Everything.
• Run Everything.exe with the -debug command line option:

  Code: Select all

  Everything.exe -debug

• Are the indexes empty?
• What is displayed in the debug console?

If the indexes are not empty, please:

• Disable start Everything on system startup from Tools -> Options -> General.
• Restart your Computer.
• Run Everything.exe with the -debug command line option:

  Code: Select all

  Everything.exe -debug

• Are the indexes empty?
• What is displayed in the debug console?

It had compiled the index

The debug console kept on scrolling.
and I could not copy.
is there an option to copy debug.
it is long to type.

• Right click the debug console.
• Click Select All.
• Right click to copy.

Please try increasing the USN Journal size on your C:
To increase the USN Journal size:

• In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
• Click the NTFS tab.
• Select Local Disk (C:)
• Set Maximum size to 65536 KB
• Click OK.

When too many changes have occurred, Everything will show an empty result list on startup. However, Everything should automatically rebuild the database. Is this happening for you?

1)Yes, Everything was empty at startup.
I had to use rebuild index.
or I had to restart everything.

2)After exiting Everything console cmd, even everything will exit from system tray.

3)Now I made change as you suggested.

This might occur if Everything failed to create the database because a volume failed to open.
It could be that Everything did not have enough privileges or the service was not running, in which case you should see the
"Everything" requires administrative privileges to index NTFS volumes... dialog. It could be another error when opening a volume, this error is reported to the debug window, so It might be a bit hard to catch. It will look something like:

CreateFileW(): GetLastError(): x: Failed to open volume y:

Where x is not equal to 5. If you do happen to catch this message, please post it here.

This is normal. Closing the console window will terminate the Everything process. Use Ctrl + ~ to show/hide the console window.

It's up to the user.
The Everything service offers no UAC prompts and programs run from Everything run as a standard user too.
There's no noticeable efficiency or performance difference between the two modes.

I restarted but again the index was empty

Please try Everything 1.3.4.678b.

Once installed, please enable the debug console by editing the Everything ini:

• Exit Everything completely.
• Edit your Everything.ini in %APPDATA%\Everything
• Change the following line:

  Code: Select all

  debug=0

  to:

  Code: Select all

  debug=1

• The next time the results are empty or a drive is missing, please post the debug output here.

Previously I was using Everything-1.3.4.676b.
After installing latest version the index is not empty after restart..Atleast for now..
Now I have set debug to 0.
When debug was 1, there were some errors displayed in console..
But now it is working fine.

The Everything index may be rebuilt every time on Windows startup due to a connection issue with the service.

Everything 679b or later should fix this issue.
