How are offline searches supposed to work?

Post by Sparks »

I know how to enable 'removable' drive to retain the index, but, it is really confusing, since there is no information on what drive it is talking about.

For example, you have a removable drive located on Y:, it indexes that.
Remove that drive, plug another one in Y: again.
Rinse & repeat for 3 different drives, you now have lost all the other indexes except the last one since they all used "Y:" which is correct for a tray-less caddy system, where you can hotswap the drives in/out.

There needs to be a custom label/comment (best option) or perhaps the diskID/serial # or something like that to keep track of what is going on.
When a removable is detected, it should just pop up a comment box asking how you want to label or comment that, then store that in the database of the files.

I understand Everything is confusing when it comes to offline media, showing the drive label is on my TODO list.
Also on my TODO list is custom colors for each unique disk serial # / volume guid.

For now, Everything doesn't keep track if a file being online or offline, they are all consider 'online'.
