sizedupe

Post by harryray2 »

I don't really get this...I've tried using sizedupe but it shows more or less all the files on the drive, not just the duplicates...with sizedupe on, and searching just my c drive, Everything shows, on my system, 136,478 objects and with it off Everything shows 156,165 objects....Obviously it shows loads of smaller size files which are the same but once the s1ze gets over about 6,000kb it shows all the files not just duplicates.

Now, if I use sizedupe on both my c and d drive it appears to work, reading only about 150,000 files for both drives

Please keep in mind that sizedupe: will find results from the ENTIRE index, not the current results.

Searching for:
c: sizedupe:

Will NOT find files on your C: drive with the same size.
It will instead find files in your ENTIRE index with the same size and limit the results shown to c: only.

A view to show only duplicated sizes for the current results is on my TODO List.

For the best results, search for:
sizedupe:

and sort your results by size.

Everything wasn't designed to be a duplicate file finder, sizedupe: only exists to give you an instant guide to files that might be duplicates.

If you must limit the search before using a dupe function, export your results to an EFU file list, open that EFU file list and then perform the dupe search, for example:
  • search for C:
  • export results to c:\cdrive.efu
  • open the file list c:\cdrive.efu with Everything.
  • search for sizedupe:
