how to add the E drive to the list of folders being indexed

Post by BigDan »

Apparently my E drive isn't in the list of things being indexed, just C and H drives. I went to Tools/Options/Indexes/NTFS and saw C, H, and Q there - not sure what the Q is. But is this the list of everything being indexed?
Then went to Indexes/Folders and over there I see E: - but although it's mentioned there it doesnt seem to be getting indexed. Also why is there a diff b/w NTFS and Folders?

Anyway I cant figure out how to add anything to NTFS. Please advise :)

Most likely an external disk you connected to this computer at some point in time.
Type
Q:
in the Everything search bar to see it's content. Maybe you recognize some files.

Everything has to use a different scanning mechanism for NTFS- and non-NTFS filesystems, due to the way these filesystems are organized.

Is E:\ a network folder? If you start CMD.exe and enter this command:

Code: Select all

dir e:\ /a /b
Are there any files shown?

Are you running Everything as administrator?
In that case:
  • Enable Everything Service
  • Disable Run as administrator
Both can be found under Menu:Tools > Options > General

E:\ is an external drive. When I ran that dos command yes there were plenty of results.

I did the next two things, enabling everything service and run as admin. But how do I add E:\ to the NTFS drives?

If E: is not a NTFS formatted drive, you'll need to add it as a Folder index.
