How to use the correct Search Syntax in the Search Filter Bar ?

Post by Flourgrader »

Hi Guys,
I am having what some people would consider a simple problem?
I am all new to this so please excuse me.
It is to do with Search Syntax:
I have run Everything and the software has indexed all of my pc.
I assume the filter search bar is the empty box under the main menu File,Edit,View and so on.....
I want to search for a Folder called "OLD"
But I am getting a lot of other data returned from that search that I don't want !
EG: old, gold, folder, older,holder,copyholder
I thought any word in " " ment return only this in a search ? Obviously NOT ?
How do I filter the search to only return "OLD" and ignore the rest in the example ?
And can I apply the same Search Syntax for a FILE ?
Thank You.

I want to search for a Folder called "OLD"
Please try the following search:

folder:ww:old

folder: = match folders only
ww: = match whole words

Alternatively, set Match Whole Words from the Search menu, select the Folder filter from the Search menu and search for: old

Using double quotes (") is useful for escaping spaces and operators.
Using double quotes does not match whole words in Everything.

For files, please try the following search:

file:ww:old

file: = match files only
