Add columns

Post by harryray2 »

Is there a way to have a column, from the add columns, if it's not in properties, to be permanently displayed?

Would it be possible to have some sort of favourites window for add columns?

v1.5 alpha

Columns can be Bookmarked along with your regular search bookmarks, allowing you to switch between multiple sets of column prefs.

Your default columns are specified under Options > General > Home > Columns: setting.
If you have (Use last value) selected, then your casual Add Columns selections should persist between instances.

A 'column set' feature is on my TODO list.

Thanks for the suggestion.

For now, you can set columns with bookmarks or filters.

Might I suggest letting recently used columns persist in the column header right-click menu, after having been unchecked, for some period of time or frequency-of-use decay. This way frequently added/removed/added/removed-again columns don't have to be dug for each time?

I have three instances..When I added date recently changed to my main Everything it worked in the two instances...I also have properties enabled in my main Everything and although it's disabled in the instances the results are showing up.

Is there some sort of link between all three instances?

The only thing in common is that they all share one service.

I've tried this with several different columns and get the same result..Aside from the service I can't see any connection.

The Date Recently Changed property is only available if you have Index Recent Changes enabled under Tools -> Options -> Indexes.

Is this option enabled?

Yes, it's enabled, but it's not about that column as such, this relates to other columns as well.
The odd thing is that the columns only show on my instances if I enable the column on my main Everything.

Sorry, I'm not following, do you mean Everything is forgetting your columns?

Please make sure Everything is installed correctly:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Check Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything.
  • Click OK.
(or make sure Everything has write permission to your Everything.ini)

Please check if you are using a filter or bookmark that is changing your columns.

Thank you for the suggestion raccoon,

I tried this during development.
It's currently commented out with the note 'too busy'

There was more in this menu during development, so I'll review re-adding this.

'Column sets' are on my TODO list.

Sorry, "Options > General > Home > Columns: " setting is not available in my ET 1.5

Make sure you have the latest version of Everything 1.5 Alpha installed.

Resize or scroll down the Options dialog so you can see all of the options.
