1.4.1 randomly shuts down

Post by gazumped »

Having a problem currently that while I'm using the app and just typing standard text into the search box, the whole window will disappear. No errors, no 'freezes' no nothing; - it's just not there any more.

Restarting the app gets everything back again - but there's a short delay, presumably while it updates the search indexes. Once it's ready, off we go again... until next time. This has happened up to four or five times during the day. There are no warnings or errors of any kind that I can see, and I'm just looking for groups of files like "*.avi"

I have a good (VPN) internet connection, an old (6yrs) but serviceable Dell laptop and Windows 10 that runs my Outlook, browser (Brave) and Evernote plus my ongoing searches and File Explorer to track usage. CPU and memory scores are around 10% / 75% in Task Manager.

Any constructive comments or suggestions on how to avoid the sudden closures? - Thanks for any help!

Using the Everything Service or are you running as "Administrator"?

Are you using the Preview?
If so, maybe it's faulting on that with particular .avi's of your.

Otherwise, maybe something along the lines of,

This is usually caused by a icon shell extension.

Please try enabling shell max path (limits filenames to 259 characters):
  • In Everything, type in the following search and press ENTER:
    /shell_max_path=1
  • If successful, shell_max_path=1 is shown in the status bar for a few seconds.
  • Type in the following search and press ENTER:
    /restart

If the issue persists, please try disabling icon shell extensions:
  • In Everything, type in the following search and press ENTER:
    /icon_shell_extensions=0
  • If successful, icon_shell_extensions=0 is shown in the status bar for a few seconds.
  • Type in the following search and press ENTER:
    /restart
Please let me know if the issue persists.
