Clicking "through" or "behind" the title bar

I'm on Windows 10, 64-bit, and when I have Everything maximized, if I click on the top of the title bar, it will often behave like I just clicked the window behind it. For example, Firefox and Everything are both maximized, but Everything is in front, and when I click on the top of the title bar of Everything, Firefox will now be in front and it will switch to whatever tab was behind my mouse button. See attached GIF for clarification.

Note how when I click "through" the Everything title bar, it also changes which tab is in focus on Firefox!

Does it only happen when you click on the absolute top pixel? Or does it happen anywhere inside the titlebar?

An odd thing about your animated GIF is that the point of your mouse cursor disappears above the top of the image. As if there is hidden space above Everything that you are clicking on. Are you sure that Everything is being maximized and not snapping to some pre-defined region that doesn't reach all the way to the top of your screen? Y-coordinate == 0

Try demonstrating this behavior again, but make sure the point of your mouse cursor does not leave Everything's titlebar.

Is this on your primary monitor or a secondary monitor? Are you using any power toys? Any multi-desktop or screen region defining software?

Are you using the snap=1 or snap=0 setting in Everything's about:config

It has to be the top row of pixels. Other areas of the titlebar won't do it. It's not consistent, either - sometimes it takes a couple clicks, sometimes it goes on the first click.

It only happens on my laptop monitor, which is my secondary monitor by Windows' settings - my external monitor is my primary, and I don't have the issue on my primary monitor.

Great question! I use Microsoft PowerToys. I normally have FancyZones enabled, though I never use that functionality. Even with FancyZones *on*, I still have the "hold shift key to while dragging to activate zones" option enabled, so I shouldn't have any issues if I'm not holding shift... I hope!
I tried disabling FancyZones and I still have the same issue.

My mistake - I didn't get the GIF recorder to stretch to the edge of the screen. Please see the new recording below. I clicked the maximize button to make sure that the window is truly maximizing, as well. Also note how it took two clicks to make the window change.

I normally have it on snap=0 but I tried with both and the issue happens the same.

I think it is a multi-monitor Windows Snap issue (check "Snap settings".

I expect the issue to be gone when you double-click the title bar or press ALT+SPACE, followed by X to maximize the window.
Could you please check that?

Furthermoe: in an older Everything 1.4 version there was an "issue" with Everything and the right border of the desktop. Maybe that affects his too. If you are on an olderversion, upgrade to the latest version.

I was on 1.4.1.1005, I just updated to 1.4.1.1015 and the issue is the same.
I tried Alt+SPACE, X to maximize, and the issue is the same.
Tried double-clicking the title bar and the issue is the same.

I tried turning off the Windows "Snap windows" setting that you mentioned, and the issue was the same. (For future reference, I now have it turned back on again.)

Can you produce this behavior on your primary display?

Can you produce this behavior in single-monitor mode?

Also, I notice that 1 pixel is still missing from the top of your GIF. Your mouse point still leaves the image.
(I personally recommend ShareX for screen capture. Give it a try.)

I haven't had any luck producing the issue..

Is it always the second click that goes through the Everything window? or does the issue sometimes occur on the first click?

Does the issue occur with other Windows? For example Notepad?

Sometimes it's first click, sometimes third. I'll try single monitor mode tomorrow. I thiiiiiink I've seen it with other windows... but I'll check that tomorrow, too.

I found a sort of solution here:

In short - it has something to do with high DPI scaling - which sort of makes sense since the monitor it happens on is a macbook retina display, so it's high DPI. I turned on "Override high DPI scaling behavior" with the option "Application" and that works for me. It makes Everything look really big on my main monitor and small on my second monitor, which is annoying, but it works well enough for me not to bother with it further.
