Optimizing Indexing Latency for New Files

Post by mike008 »

Currently using everything server on a windows server to index a linux samba share. Currently, new files seem to appear in the index and on the everything client within 2-5 minutes. Are there any opportunities for optimization that would reduce the time delay from when the files are written to the time they are indexed and appear in the everything client?

Thank you.

The changes should appear instantly to all clients.

Could you please check your Index Journal on the Server:
  • On the Server, In Everything, from the Index menu, click Index Journal.
  • Make a local file system change.
  • Does the change appear instantly in the Index Journal?
Could you please check your Index Journal on the Client:
  • On the Client, In Everything, from the Index menu, click Index Journal.
  • Make a file system change on the server.
  • Does the change appear instantly in the Index Journal?
There might be a connection issue?

That journal is helpful. I am seeing it average about 2 minutes between making the file system change and it reflecting in the index journal on the server and then another 2 minutes more before it reflects on the journal on the client.

We are seeing a delay of 2 minutes between the file system change and the index journal on the server. Then, another 2 minutes passes before the index journal on the client reflects the file system change.

Thank you for the information.

Are you seeing any changes to the index journal during the 2 minutes? -or is the index journal completely unchanged for the 2 minutes?

Could you please send your Tools -> Debug -> Statistics to support@voidtools.com

Could you please send some debug output on the server:
  • On the Server, In Everything from the Tools menu, under the Debug menu, click Start Debug Logging.
  • Make a file system change on the server. (eg: create a new folder on the desktop)
  • Wait for the file system change to appear in your Index Journal (Tools -> Index Journal)
  • From the Tools menu, under the Debug menu, click Stop Debug Logging.
---this will open your Everything Debug Log.txt in Notepad---
  • Could you please send this file to support@voidtools.com
