Is it expected that search speed slightly degrades over time?

I noticed that the search speed of similar queries becomes a bit slower when Everything has been running for a long time (multiple days or even weeks).

Is this a bug or to be expected? Maybe applying thousands of file changes to the database harms cache locality or something like that?

We don't know. There is not a lot of usage or testing going on with Everything 1.4 any longer, with lots of major changes and fixes since implemented in Everything 1.5

Please run your tests again in Everything 1.5 since version 1.4 will be obsoleted soon.

How many files are you indexing? (shown in the status bar when there's no selection and the search is blank)

Everything might be getting paged to disk.
How much memory do you have free? How much memory is Everything using?

Please try temporarily sorting by name ascending to see if performance improves.
