Very slow sending of audio files to default audio player (Winamp) [RESOLVED]

Post by Thy Grand Voidinesss »

If in any program I quickly double left-click on a video file, then it is send automatically and immediately to my default video player. If in any program I quickly double left-click on an audio file, then it is also send automatically and immediately to my default audio player - with the exception of doing so in Everything. Because it takes ~30 second for the file to be sent to my Winamp. During this waiting time Everything freezes; although peculiarly without a system info popping up from Windows about program being unresponsive

I have no such time delay when dragging from Everything and dropping the very same files to any player including Winamp. There is also no time delay with opening through Everything locations containing those files

I am using Everything 1.5.0.1346a x64 Portable and Winamp 5.8 Build 3660 x86 on Windows 10 Enterprise 20H2

I don't have such delays with my default audio and video player MPC-HC
which comes with the K-Lite Standard Codec Pack.
Start of audio or video files from Everything takes max 2 seconds and it plays.
Whats the location of your media files ?

As I said, using comparisons, such absurd delay happens only for audio files and only in Everything. My default video player MPC-HC starts gigabytes weighting video files immediately

And the location of audio files being the culprit has been ruled out be me

And this happens with all media files that you (double-click to) open in Winamp?

Does Winamp "inject" anything or have any type of "extension" or even a "shell icon"?

If your default video player is MPC-HC what is the reason not to use it for audio ?
You said its starts fast for videos, I guess it will also be fast on audio.
At least it does it for me.

Are you running Everything as administrator? ("Administrator" is shown in the title bar.

I have only audio files associated with Winamp

And all of them are affected and only in Everything

I do not use any modifications, despite being advanced and long time me user of Winamp

Because Winamp has what MPC-HC and other players do not, starting with its Windowshade mode AKA a thin bar always showing me what I am listening too along with additional info meticulously added to files be me with usage of Mp3tag

And because it is my default video player

And please refrain from suggesting to people usage of other software or hardware when they are asking specifically about what they use and not just programs or gadgets in general

I should have thought about checking elevation status on both programs in question

But to answer yours: I had a long time ago my Everything set to be run with privileges

You said the opposite above
"My default video player MPC-HC starts gigabytes weighting video files immediately"
Sorry this is the simple reason why I asked

I do not think so

In my initial post I wrote about video files being starting in video player from Everything without a sweat and about audio files in audio player with delay present only in Everything- with the last one being identified as Winamp

Long story short: all signs point out to some fatal non-fixable error in system files; or I am now experiencing more than one malfunction at the same time, masking as such

I will have to restore my system from an image - and see if the original problem will still be present

I just have. And I know what [at I think] I had written

It is obvious that one of use has not sufficient command of the English language - which is irrelevant anyhow

That was an unfortunate waste of time. I have explained this to @NotNull via PM

All in all: Winamp always has been my default audio player while MPC-HC has been for video only. And I am not changing this. And that's that

Unfortunately yes

Please make sure Everything is running as a standard user:
Add so it seems that it comes down to [in my particular case] not selecting this one option available at

Tools > Options > General > Run as administrator

But I think there was a reason to why I had it selected, but cannot recall now for what it was needed for my smooth daily usage of Everything. I recon I will come back to this topic if a need or me running Everything in an elevated state manifests itself

[So for now the issue has been dealt with; thank you all for participating in this topic]

There is a reason why it is called PM (Personal Message). It is not meant to make public. I am quite disappointed to put it mildly ...

It also is not a representation of that conversation: you *tried* to explain it, but failed.
(and don't start all over here again)
