SFN

Post by therube »

had a file named, "!!!!YK~1"

i accessed that file in 2 different (comparison) programs
saving the access history in each (such that the file name was retained in a file history list)
[similar in concept to a saved 'file-list' that Everything may access]

i manually renamed the file to, "!!!!YK~1 - yk2"

each of those 2 programs were unaware of the rename

"!!!!YK~1", "being a", by virtue of having a file name in a manner representative of that of a SFN
was still "seen" by these 2 programs
- because, as it happened, the "SFN" also happened to correspond to the renamed files LFN ;-)

took me a moment (two actually) to realize just what was going on, when i was seeing two
different names, yet only one physical file

Code: Select all

W:\00>DIR /x "!!!!YK~1 - yk2
                                       SFN: LFN:
