Advanced Rename-Preset-Function key or shortcut?

Post by eswul62 »

Up front, I vainly searched, maybe it has been suggested before and maybe I am overlooking that thread.

Advanced Rename, presets, when adding a preset, how about adding an option to assign a preset to a F-key
(not systemwide, so as to avoid clashing, but just for Everything)

Just an idea.

Thanks.

I have put on my TODO list to add a keyboard shortcut option to the advanced rename presets.

Thank you for the suggestion.

I came in here to make this exact recommendation given even with Shift F2, there are still a lot of clicks to get to the preset when you're repeatedly renaming a lot of files in small batches. See that ya'll are all over it already. but second this for sure.

Many thanks!

Please do note that, personally, I've set F-keys/shortcuts in Opus to do the same renaming as the Everything-presets, i.e. right now I switch to Opus (from within Everything) do the renaming, and go back to Everything. As said, I would recommend to make the F-keys/shortcuts primarily limited to be used within Everything so as to avoid conflicts with shortcuts within other applications(?)
Again.. my personal view on this.

Thank you again.

Everything 1.5.0.1379a adds an /advanced-rename-preset search command.

To set a keyboard shortcut to open your advanced rename preset:
  • In Everything 1.5, from the Bookmarks menu, click Add to bookmarks.....
  • Change the Name to: My Advanced Rename Preset
    (can be anything you like)
  • Change the Search to: /advanced-rename-preset "my preset name"
( where "my preset name" is your exact preset name )
  • Set your Keyboard shortcut.
  • Click OK.

I still want to add keyboard shortcut management to the preset organizer at some stage..
This was just a quick addition to get something working..

As always, many thanks.
Really appreciated.

Maybe some time in future we can assign a F-key to this preset.

In Opus I would hit F4 and the file is renamed without showing rename panel.
A kind of 'silent rename' so to say.
With the usual CTRL-Z to undo last action if necessary.
(Absolutely no offense meant, don't get me wrong please)

Thank you for your feedback eswul62,

I am considering the following search commands:
/run-advanced-rename
/run-advanced-rename-preset

For now, you'll need to hit F4 + ENTER
A third party tool (like Autohotkey) could convert F4 to F4 + ENTER

Probably it is something very simple and I am sure that I am doing something wrong at some point.

Using a shortcut (being either F-key or e.g. shift-D) brings up the rename panel only, at least with me.
From there I need to select a preset.
Meaning to say the shortcut does not rename, i.e. the 'new name' is not being displayed in the rename panel.

It's case sensitive.

Please try the following bookmark search:

/advanced-rename-preset "Add Date-Time"

I'll make this preset lookup case insensitive in the next alpha update..

Everything 1.5.0.1381a will now correctly lookup presets with case insensitivity.

Case matching presets will be found first.
