[Suggestion] Temporarily show full column contents
[Suggestion] Temporarily show full column contents
Indicated column. Especially for name and path.
Perhaps via keyboard shortcuts. Or maybe combines with mouse. To expand column, as overlay.
Maybe hold only is enough.

Hover over the partially visible item to show the full contents.
Select a single item to view the full details in the status bar.
Press Ctrl + Numpad+ to autosize columns to fit.

Re: [Suggestion] Temporarily show full column contents
I mean a certain whole column, every entries under it.
I can imagine like Ctrl mouse over a header, but I'm currently not showing headers, with an awesome advanced option.

Re: [Suggestion] Temporarily show full column contents
I think I can't use auto fit functions, it change some columns that I wish to keep fixed, especially those long header name with short contents like audio track number. I nearly got PTSD of the auto fit functions. Now either I don't resize the window or always keep reduntant default tabs to apply it as default by leave only them opened, when accidents happens, auto fit functions functioned. I do both.
Edit: besides, if the whole set of actions involved auto fit involved horizontal scroll, it involve mouse I think, then it becomes slow.
Re: [Suggestion] Temporarily show full column contents
(In this regard, & also in regard to a thread around when 1382 came out...)
similarly, certain UI layout settings that could be set & restored
- via a GUI would be great
so maybe a user.UI.js.
that file would contain your "normal", baseline, UI layout, columns,
widths, sizing, including window sizing... that you would "always"
want to use...
"always".
always - except for the times that you don't
so you run into 1 of those times, & you arbitrarily throw the UI
into a totally different configuration, & when you're done with
that aspect of things, you (interactively) restore said "baseline"
& you're immediately back to where you started - as if nothing had
be done in the interim
like i have my "baseline" - that i always use
though there certainly are times i'd like to stray from that
for some particular task, though in not wanting to stray from my base
i'm hesitant to do that
if a Restore UI existed, i'd use that... in a minute
for me, i'd think that it would be useful predominately for
size expansion of Name|Path columns
likewise then, an F11 could (optionally) automatically, smartly,
resize particular column widths to more efficiently fit the newly
enlarged window size (& when you toggle out of F11 those column
widths automatically reset to where they started from)
as it is, my window size is on the small side, with some columns
totally out of view, so when i F11 I may pick up those columns,
but i do not gain greater column widths, so (in my case) actual
viewable content only amounts to about 1/2 of my physical screen
size - where if F11 maximized & also automatically, smartly
resized Name|Path (& restored on exit from F11), /that/ would be
a great benefit
(as it is, i rarely F11 because, for me, there really is no
benefit - unless i'm wanting to see more rows)
(granted, a 1368 Import/Export would accomplish above [the UI], but it
also restores /Everything/, not /just/ the UI layout)
[moments after wrting above...]
i'm looking at a set of files, i can /SEE/ (because of column width)
where if i could F11, i would see:
now, based on (available) context, i may have a very good idea of what i'm not seeing,
but i cannot /know/ - because i cannot see

Code: Select all
in that regard, i'd much rather see a user.js file (for user
overrides to .ini defaults) that way, you want your customizations
for a different -instance, simply copy your user.js file into that
new -instance directory & you're done

Re: [Suggestion] Temporarily show full column contents
F11 is far from my left hand so I remapped it to WIN+G, I think I could call it somewhat handy now due to the combination of WIN key usually not that comfortable to press.
But I use max screen width for Everything all the time, But I only got 4k vertical monitors and a 13" laptop, eventually I still don't have too much horizontal space.
In the future I would like to buy a monitor for landscape use, maybe a really wide one, then I would have 2 set of columns setups, one for ultra wide, one for normal. I'll figure it out then.
Re: [Suggestion] Temporarily show full column contents
I think you painted yourself nicely in the corner with that
To get out of the corner, I think I would create a keyboard shortcut to toggle the header:
- Create a new bookmark:
Name = Toggle Header
Search = /header_show=!header_show
Keyboard shortcut = <whatever you like>
- Press the assigned keyboard shortcut
- resize Path column
- etc.
- Press the assigned keyboard shortcut
<LEFT> and <RIGHT> scroll horizontally (when result list is active)
Alternatively, use SHIFT + scrollwheel
Re: [Suggestion] Temporarily show full column contents
Thank you NotNull, I don't know it could eventually control header's visibility with keyboard, I'll set one for it, I'm currently everytime have to go to the advanced options to do so.
But for that, the first quote, it was related to the concept, CTRL+mouse over to temporarily show full column content.
Yes I changed a certain amount of settings related to interface, it's now looks like a face poured with acid, melted a lot of things.

Re: [Suggestion] Temporarily show full column contents
Maybe a shortcut to cycle 1st/2nd.. column between auto fit size and restore is better than things like overlay. Which may even be integrated to the present sort columns keyboard shortcuts with long or double click.
