DropDown button Width

Post by mohsyn »

How do I increase width of "down arrow" button in main search textbox next to "X" for easier access to it.
Right now it is so thin that it requires so much precision to click if using mouse.
Is there a way to have it wider?

The dropdown button should have the same width as a scrollbar.

Are you seeing something different?

Could you please send a screenshot?

The dropdown button can be activated from the search box with F4.

its literally the area inside the red rectangle I have made
I am on windows 11 dark theme and have not done anything to alter or change width of scroll bars.

as for keyboard shortcut that is not a problem, its just that when using mouse it is more convenient to not switch to keyboard if all you want to do is to pull down the list and select a previous search

Thank you for the screenshot.

Although it's not perfectly clear, the dropdown box does appear to have the same width as a scrollbar.

Please consider increasing your zoom:
  • In Everything, press Ctrl + =
Increasing the zoom will make the dropdown button larger.

To decrease your zoom:
  • In Everything, press Ctrl + -

To reset your zoom:
  • In Everything, press Ctrl + 0

To adjust the zoom for all Everything dialogs:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the UI tab on the left.
  • Adjust the UI Scale.
  • For example: 150%
  • Click OK.

Consider increasing the system scrollbar size (not recommended):
  • From the Start menu, search for:
    regedit
  • Right click Registry Editor and click Run as administrator.
  • Navigate to:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics
  • Change ScrollWidth to the desired size in pixels x -15
For example: -510 would double the scrollbar width.
  • -255 is the default.

Thanks for the detailed reply and solutions.

I understand that this is more of a windows UI issue.
Zoom as solution does not work it increases everything beyond normal too.

Registry hack worked better than other solutions.

Thanks!

I had to check that I hadn't written the opening post since it's the exact question I've wanted to ask.
Search history is a frequent control that we use in E'thing and I do wish that there was a more generous target area for this down arrowhead.
It's a control we all use, so why limit it to 3-4mm on our high DPI screens. Yes, we can Ctrl = (reverse Ctrl -) but that enlarges everything. When a mouse is under a hand, it's to use. Reading on, perhaps the dropdown is tied to scrollbar width, but does it have to be?
It's a Graphical USER Interface.
Imagine an interface where the user wasn't constrained by system limitations. The mindbending 'System Font' is the prime felon in this regard. See the menu font. I pine for the day when programmers can control every element of the interface.
It seems it's still not possible after:
38 Years 8 Months 11 Days = 38.697 Years
464 Months 1 Week 4 Days = 464.361 Months
2019 Weeks 0 Days = 2019.000 Weeks

I will consider an option to customize the dropdown button width.

Thank you for the suggestion.

For now, please consider the following:
Press Alt + Up or Alt + Down to show the dropdown list.
Press Ctrl + H to bring up search history.

Very good, Author void.
We await in hope.

With regard to your suggestions, I eschew, I try to, the 'horizontal wave'. the unnecessary moving of my hand from mouse to keyboard and back to my mouse, repeated.
Perhaps I have a cup of coffee in my left hand or its in a pocket to keep warm; whatever* so that if my hand is on my mouse, I'd like to use it. Options.
[*there's a new meme for developers]

Many thanks.
