Page Count Column Doesn't Show Count for all Documents

Post by Shae_Clark »

I have the page count column turned on but it's not showing the count for all the pdf documents, only a few & I can't seem to figure out why because they're in the same location.

Here's what it's showing me. What am I doing wrong??

It's likely these PDF files use Cross-reference streams.

Everything doesn't have native support for these yet.

What does the Version property show for these PDF files?

As Void said, in the properties of a file :)
Use the context menu, select Properties and the Details tab.

I'm sorry I should've asked what exactly I should be looking for, not necessarily where because when I go there I see this.

These documents show page count...

& these documents don't show page count..

Look for the "PDF Specification" entry.

Short test:

PDF-Version: 1.4 (Acrobat 5.x)
For 40 pdf files with version 1.4, the NUMBER OF PAGES IS DISPLAYED in the ‘Page Count’ column. *)

PDF-Version: 1.6 (Acrobat 7.x)
Out of 53 pdf files with version 1.6, the number of pages is ONLY DISPLAYED FOR 12 PDF FILES. **)

PDF-Version: 1.7 (Acrobat 8.x)
For 58 pdf files with version 1.7, the number of pages in the ‘Page Count’ column is NOT DISPLAYED. ***)

The ‘Page number:’ field is filled in the document properties.
The document properties were viewed in Adobe Acrobat XI Pro - Version 11.0.23.22 (x86).

______________
I suspect that it also has an influence with which application the pdf document was created.

   *)  PDF-Version: 1.4
Adobe Acrobat Pro DC 20.12.20041, Adobe Acrobat Pro DC (32-bit) 21.1.20138, Adobe Acrobat Pro DC (32-bit) 21.1.20145
Adobe Acrobat Pro DC (32-bit) 21.1.20155, HBM E-Paper Plattform.

  **)  PDF-Version: 1.6
Adobe InDesign CS2 (4.0.5) - here the number of pages is displayed in Everything for 12 PDF files or
Adobe Acrobat Pro DC 19.10.20064 - here the number of pages is NOT displayed in Everything for 41 PDF files

***)  PDF-Version: 1.7
Adobe Acrobat Pro DC 19.21.20047, Adobe Acrobat Pro DC 20.12.20048, Adobe Acrobat Pro DC (32-bit) 21.1.20150,
Adobe Acrobat Pro DC (32-bit) 21.7.20091, Adobe Acrobat Pro DC (32-bit) 21.7.20102, HBM E-Paper Plattform

- Applications: Without claim to completeness -

Interesting!! Thanks so much for that information!
Do you know if it's possible or have an idea as to how I would go about updating the documents created in those older versions so they will show the page count in everything?

Unfortunately not.

My attempt to save a PDF document with the Adobe Acrobat XI Pro available to me under the same name
or under a new name was unfortunately unsuccessful, i.e. the number of pages was still not displayed in Everything.

In Total Commander, however, there is a plugin (field content: [=xpdfsearch.Number of Pages])
which shows me the number of pages of each PDF file in a 'Custom Columns view'.

I guess the plugin reads the file and counts the pages if no info is available.
This is not the same as displaying a field of the meta data.
Btw. I use the following settings for this plugin

Possible, but the number of pages is available in the document properties of a PDF file.
