Currently the folders tree is being sorted alphabetically, and I have not found a means to set the sort order by something like date created or date modified.
There are a lot of cases where I need to sort by date created or date modified, etc etc. For example today, I needed to go through a series of folders and manually verify its contents (in list view) against a list shown on a web browser. So I wanted to use the folder to tree to quickly traverse from folder to folder until I have confirmed all of them. The issue was that the list on the web browser is show in the order they were created, while the folder tree lists folders alphabetically. So I could not go about it this way.
But I could have if I had a way to temporarily sort its child items by say, date created.
I am placing a feature request to determine how the folder tree sorts its items, similar to how you can with the list view, with the option to set the ascending/descending order.
This is probably too late to be introduced into version 1.5, then perhaps it can be considered for 1.6. This would make the folders panel more versatile and its a sorely needed feature.
Thank you

Maybe I did not understood what you mean but for example
1.Enable the folder panel and disable the subfolder checkbox
2.Go to the everything options=>Context Menu(Folders) and add this
$exploreineverything("%1")
3.In the search result panel add date created\modified column and click on it
That way it will sort the folders by date created and double clicking on a folder will open it inside the everything result window(instead of opening the explorer)
What else you can do is use the search dc:today or dm:today

Re: Feature Request: Allow the folders panels child items to be sorted
I will consider an option to sort the folder sidebar.
Thank you for the suggestion.
I have on my TODO list to add a search to the folder sidebar, so the results could potentially be sortable..
For now, please consider unchecking subfolders in the folder sidebar, selecting your folder, searching for and sort by date created.

A full search on the Folder tree could be useful. If it's not used constantly it may be it could be accessed by right-clicking the folderbar title.
In terms of the original question for the interim I would have gone to the base folder and search just for the folders ( folder: ) sort them by the date order needed, and then to examine each one, drag a folder of interest into a new tab position to view it.
