Wrong working with mapped disks

Post by bestsun »

But there is a big disadvantage of Everything, when you are working with mapped disks.

Only first link type:

> 1). C:

present found files lists in well known for users form. Found information is
absolutely the same format as when you are searching local
disks.

Other 3 link types or have problems, or do not allow copy
descript.ion files of Total Commander along with copying
files.

descript.ion files are files used for describing files in
Total Commander and can be set to be copyed to a new place
alongside with copied files. This is very convenient and
necessary function. If you do not know what is descript.ion
files - please read Total Commander's Help.

So only 1st link types of Everything is fine. But its disadvantage
is next.

For example, you have local disks: C and D.

And you would like map remote disks C, D, E and F from another PC.

You can map remote E and F as E and F on local computer. But
you'll be forced map remote C and D as I and J to
differentiate them from local C and D.

And that cause the big problem!

I set Everything to work with Total Commander as file manager with this 3 lines in everything.ini:

open_folder_command2=$exec("C:\Program Files\Totalcmd\Totalcmd.exe" /O /T /S /L="%1")
open_file_command2=$exec("c:\Program Files\TOTALCMD\TOTALCMD.EXE" /O /T /S /L "%1\:")
open_path_command2=$exec("C:\Program Files\Totalcmd\Totalcmd.exe" /O /T /S /L="%1")

That works like a charm on local disks.

In ideal you should search an all disks - local and remote
at the same time. And should have possibility correctly set
coursor on found file in Total Commander nevertheless where
located a file - on local disk or mapped disk.

But you can not do it currently with Evrything+Tototal Commander

For example, place a file bigboss.txt on local С and remote С.

But Everything shows that file only on local C, but no one on remote C (mapped locally as disk I)! If I double click on that file in Everything, Total Commander set coursor on file on local C.

Now I am keeping bigboss.txt on local disk C and rename file on remote disk C to bigboss_1.txt.

What we see now? Local file disappeared from Everything search results! We can see file bigboss_1.txt on remote disk C. And Total Commander cannot set coursor on bigboss_1.txt !!!

Definitely Everything fail work correctly in the case!

RESUME: Everything don not work correctly if you have the same files on the same name disks on local and remote computer. I.e. on local C and mapped remote C the same file.

It correctly finds files only when they are located on mapped disks with names that are differentiated from local disks. I.e. if they are located on remote E, F, but not on remote C and D as the same name disks are on local computer.

Please experiment and you'll understand what I mean.
