recent files showing on taskbar and start menu

Post by harryray2 »

I have two instances of Everything (1.5) on my task bar and start menu.

On the task bar of my main Everything, when I right click it shows recent files...same on the start menu in a flyout.

On the instance, recent does not show.
Although recent is showing there are only a couple of items and these are from several weeks ago.

How was recent created on the task bar and the start menu in the first place, why is it only on one copy of Everything and how do I keep it up to date?

To my knowledge recent files are not created by an application itself.

Windows manages recent files.

Opening a file from Everything should add the file to recent files.

There is a add_to_recent_docs ini setting to force Everything to add an opened file to recent files.

This setting is already enabled by default.

Everything doesn't support Jump Lists yet.
It is on my TODO list.

Currently, named instances will not work.
Windows doesn't like the -instance command line option.
Only the unnamed instance will support recent files from the task bar.

A solution might be to:
For each instance copy your Everything.exe to another folder.
Create an Everything.ini in the same location as Everything.exe or open the existing one.
Change the instance_name to your instance name.
avoid using the -instance command line option.
