simple specific search

Post by silent »

Looking to use this program to help production managers search for specific files needed for machine production.

the software is great but I would like to simplify the search somehow so the average worker cannot search outside a specific range

I know I can use the folder path in the search bar, but how do I just have a simple search bar that will only search a specific folder and sub folder?

If you want to search *only* in a specific folder, you can exclude all other files/folders permanently from being included in Everything:
  • Check if the drive is listed under Menu:Tools > Options > Indexes.
  • If that is the case:
    • Select the drive in the Local NTFS volumes: box
    • Fill in the folder to be searched. In this example "C:\Program Files"
    • Click the OK button
    • Let Everything re-index the drive.

  • If that NOT is the case:
    • Go to Menu:Tools > Options > Indexes > Folder
    • Remove the current folder that indexes too broadly (for example X:\)
    • Click the Add button
    • Browse to the folder you want indexed (for example "X:\company data\machine production"
    • Click the OK button
    • Let Everything re-index the drive.

If you want other folders to be indexed too, but want a "default view" that is limited to a specific folder, you can use a Filter
