Tor bypassing host file

I noticed that Tor bypasses my host file...Is there a way of making Tor use the Host file or some sort of alternative?

How come the Tor browser is able to connect to some websites, even though these websites have been banned after I amended my /etc/hosts file?

They say a (FF) site blocking extension may work.
But then, linked, they talk about (other, not included) extensions & how they may affect anonymity.
