Black preview screen

Post by 2nykong »

Hi.
I am experiencing a black screen in my preview screen, so when I click on the search results in my list I can not see whats in the file.
My right result screen is constantly black. Any suggestions?

Best regards

What type of file extensions give you the black screen? (eg: txt files?, jpg files? pdf files?)

Please make sure Everything is installed correctly and running as a standard user:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Check Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything.
  • Uncheck Run as administrator.
  • Check Everything Service. (Please make sure this is tick-checked and not square-checked)
  • Click OK.
  • Exit Everything (right click the Everything tray icon and click Exit).
  • Restart Everything.

Hi.
Thank you for your answer. I have checked every setting you mention here, and it is set accordingly (nothing changed recently either).
My files/extensions are for Flexisign, and the previews work fine in the left window, if I choose to show medium/large/Extra large thumbnails.

When I initiate Everything, the right window panel is white, but as I click on a file in the list the window turns black.
If I try to list textfiles the window is still black, but it shows the text with white letters.

I tried something else; I always use dark theme, and I changed this to light theme instead. Then the right window turned white, and the textfiles showed up with black text. Now when I click on a Flexisign file (*.FS) the right window shows the message; "This file is to big to preview. Max file size 50kb." I have tried to increase the buffer size, but this did not fix the issue. Is it the settings under Indexes > NTFS that has to be changed to allow for bigger database and/or files? The files/preview has worked very well earlier regardless of the size of the files, so there must be a change in the settings somewhere.

What version of Everything are you using?
Please make sure you are using the x64 version of Everything.

Please try enabling preview_release_handler_on_clear:

Copy and paste the following into your Everything search box:
/preview_release_handler_on_clear=1
Press ENTER in your Everything search box.
If successful, preview_release_handler_on_clear=1 is shown in the status bar for a few seconds.

This file is to big to preview. Max file size 50kb
This is an issue with Powertoys.

Hi.
I tried the command, but it did not change anything. I have recently installed PowerToys, thats true.
Do I have to uninstall it to fix this issue then?

Tony

Add on;
I turned off the settings in PowerToys for the File Explorer add-ons regarding the thumbnail previews etc., and that fixed the issue.

Thanks for your time and efforts.

Some more information here.

I don't have a good solution to get Powertoys going at this stage.

I have enabled some of the current Power toys File manager add-ons
without getting such problems.

I think i prefer to have the functions under this option turned off alltogether and let explorer handle it the usual way.
Thanks again for your efforts.

Everything 1.5.0.1330a initializes previews as a "shell item" instead of a "file".

This is only done if the preview handler doesn't support initialization as a "stream".

Does this help?
