Randomly stops working after a few months?

I've had this issue on numerous PCs and installs now, and I'm wondering what the cause might be.

This is a great program; I use it daily and it works great. Then, like clockwork, about 2 months later, it will not be able to find anything at all. It will always find 0 results of files that most definitely exists, even on the desktop. Is there any reason why this program would stop working after a set time?

I am on WIN10 64bit, use the 64-bit version.

I can usually fix it by reinstalling, but even doing this again, it stops being able to find things after a few days now, it's bizarre.

If the issue occurs again, please try the following:

Please make sure no search options are checked under the Search menu (eg: uncheck match case, uncheck match whole words, uncheck regex)

Please make sure the Everything filter is active under the Search menu.

Please make sure you are not excluding any files under Tools -> Options -> Exclude.
Please make sure exclude hidden/system files/folders settings are unchecked.



Please make sure Everything is installed correctly and running as a standard user:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Check Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything.
  • Uncheck Run as administrator.
  • Check Everything Service. (Please make sure this is tick-checked and not square-checked)
  • Click OK.
  • Exit Everything (right click the Everything tray icon and click Exit).
  • Restart Everything.


Please try forcing a rebuild:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Indexes tab on the left.
  • Click Force Rebuild.
  • Click OK.


The issue could be database corruption.

If you have multiple hard drives, please try storing your Everything database on another drive:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Indexes tab on the left.
  • Change the database location to another drive, for example: D:\Everything
  • Click OK.
You might find the Everything 1.5 alpha more stable.



If the issue persists, could you please send your debug logs:
  • In Everything, from the File menu, click Exit.
  • In Windows Explorer, navigate to:
    C:\Program Files\Everything
  • Hold down Shift and Right click in this folder and click Open Powershell here.
  • Type in the following command and press ENTER:
    .\Everything.exe -debug-log
  • Give Everything a minute to startup.
  • Could you please send your %TEMP%\Everything Debug Log.txt to support@voidtools.com
