Indexing options and fast sorting

I unchecked "Index Date Created" and observed that a search on created date was slow enough to be visible.

This was my search:

dc:past28days .pdf

Checking "Index Date Created" improved search time considerably. It was almost instantaneous on my slow PC.

In that case, why is there also an option for "Fast Date Created Sort"? How much additional speed is gained as I can't observe it?

Fast Date Created Sort does not improve the search speed.
Fast Date Created Sort will improve the sort speed.



To check the performance:

• Keep Index Date Created enabled.
• Disable Fast Date Created Sort.
• Clear the search.
• Set the sort order to Name ascending.
• Set the sort order to Date Created.
  Take note of how long it takes to sort by date created.
