How to perform a re-search or re-scan?

Post by SumGuy »

I'm running Everything 1.4.1.87 (x86).

I've performed a search (on a network share, SMB I think, a NAS box). I've added or changed a file name on the network device. How do I get Everything to perform a re-search or re-scan or to otherwise re-fresh the search results? Under "View" I can refresh the results list, but this does not search for new results or changes.

To add your network share to your Everything index:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Folders tab on the left.
  • Click Add Folder....
  • Select your mapped network drive or network share.
(for example: J: drive or \\server\share)
  • Click OK.

Everything will be unable to see mapped network drives if you run Everything as administrator.

Please make sure Everything is installed correctly and running as a standard user:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Check Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything.
  • Uncheck Run as administrator.
  • Check Everything Service. (Please make sure this is tick-checked and not square-checked)
  • Click OK.
  • Exit Everything (right click the Everything tray icon and click Exit).
  • Restart Everything.

To rescan a folder index:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Folders tab on the left.
  • Select mapped network drive or network share.
  • Click Rescan Now.
  • Click OK.

I don't want to add this NAS contents to the Everything index, it is connected only sporadically.

I did select Tools Options Rescan now and it did what I wanted. Thanks.

I would suggest that "Rescan Now" be added to the Search drop-down list.

In Everything 1.5, this feature is available under the Index menu:
