Scanning another drive

Post by jzbell »

I have been using Everything for years now, and all of a sudden I cannot scan my external drive. How do I do that?

I did see where you said to go to Tools/Options/Folders, but when changing the drive letter and clicking ok, it still does not work.

I need Everything to search only 2 drives.

Thank you.

Please make sure these files are not excluded from Tools -> Options -> Exclude.

Please make sure no search options are checked under the Search menu (eg: uncheck match case, uncheck match whole words, uncheck regex)

Please make sure the Everything filter is active under the Search menu.

Please check the status bar, make sure it shows the total number of files and not Indexing... or rescanning...

Does the issue persist?

TY so much for your help. I went to the "exclude" and unchecked the 3rd item that had a checkmar -- now there are no checkmarks there and I can see everything.

You mention the # in the status bar -- all I see is what I typed that I'm looking for and no number. It doesn't matter - at least I can now view both drives.

Thanks again.

One more question while here -- is it bad to tell it to NEVER SCAN? I don't quite understand that as to what it is scanning.

Everything will miss changes to your folder indexes while Everything is not running.

Everything will rescan your folder indexes in the background daily by default.

You can set rescan to never if you have Everything running most of the time.

To manually rescan:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Folders tab on the left.
  • Select your folder.
  • Click Rescan Now.
  • Click OK.

Again -- can't thank you enough for your information. Like I say I've used this utility for a very long time and it's wonderful since Windows will not do as thorough a search as this does.

I'd be lost without it.
