Advanced Copy using Shift-Alt-Drag / File Overwrites

Post by meteorquake »

Shift-Alt-Drag of a file into a folder seems to be treated as if no modifiers so it seems to be available.

I think it would be handy if it did an advanced move/copy whereby a dialog comes up and you can choose options to indicate, and I suspect this may be only doable when the target folder is within Everything rather than in an external app:-

* Copy, Move or Shortcut
* Use temporary via file (so that the transfer is completed then it is moved to its destination)
* Text box to adjust destination name (prefilled with name of source)
* Ability to add timestamp with a click (e.g. TS button that adds e.g. yyyy-mm-dd-hhnnss at the cursor position, format could be specified in config)
* Option to indicate any existing file at the target is pushed out of the way by adding a timestamp to it instead of it being overwritten or prompted for.
Perhaps remembered for next use (but that doesn't need to be saved to config)
I'm sure there are other options, and a little thought about using this with multiple files.

I think this would answer quite a few aspects of file movement that are not covered by simply Move and Copy. I find I'm very frequently having to do these sorts of tasks and I'm sure others may therefore be too.

On a related note I think that one of these aspects, when (within Everything) you are moving/copying over an existing file, instead of asking "Overwrite Y/N" should ask "Overwrite ShiftTargetAway Cancel" with the ShiftTargetAway adding a TS before the extension rather as above.

I will consider an option to customize the Shift-Alt-Drag action.

Currently, the system handles the move/copy.
I have on my TODO list to add my own move/copy handling.
I will consider the option to ShiftTargetAway.

Thank you for the suggestions.
