Installation hangs

Post by terrypin »

In order to see if it would fix the ongoing problem I have with Everything frequently updating the database, I just tried installing the latest beta.

But it's been stuck at this point with nothing happening forabut 10 minutes:

My fault - I'd downloaded the 32-bit version. Have now successfully installed 1.4.1.773b (x64) and hope it solves the database issue.

32 or 64-bit shouldn't matter (unless you're on a 32-bit OS ;-) ) so wonder why the 32-bit install hung on you?

A couple things could of happened:
1) The Installer should send any existing Everything that is running a message to exit.
This will timeout after 1 minute. If it times out, it should display the following message:
Timed out while waiting for Everything.exe to close

2) Tell the Everything service to stop, which can timeout out after 30 seconds. No error message reported here, but it will trigger the next error below:

3) Copy installation files, times out after 10 seconds with the following error:
Failed to copy Everything.exe: x

4) Stuck applying installing options.

Was there another Everything running at the time of installing the new version?
Do you have the Everything service installed?
Was there a dialog message shown in the installer?

Don't think so.

Do you have the Everything service installed?
Yes.

Was there a dialog message shown in the installer?
No.

Anyway, it's working so I'm happy. :)
