I've used Everything for a while now, I love its feature set. It's extremely quick, works on all my drives, lets me regex filenames, and so on... I mean really, you don't need me to list all its features. Safe to say it's great software.
The one thing I don't love though, the one thing that isn't great... is its name. "Everything". It leaves something to be desired. It causes confusion in conversations. Even in this very post, at the very start, if the E in Everything hadn't been capitalized it would have been confusing without context. "Everything is great." "I love Everything." What on Earth is this guy talking about?
I propose something much more branded, like "voidsearch", "voidtools search", something of the like. Easy to say, unique as far as I know, and should be a bit better for search engines as well.

Not half as bad as calling a word processor ... WordMuffinTastic wrote: ↑Sun Mar 24, 2024 12:46 am The one thing I don't love though, the one thing that isn't great... is its name. "Everything". It leaves something to be desired. It causes confusion in conversations.
Although I had the same thoughts as you the first days of using Everything, in reality it never caused issues.
The context will make it clear or -- in case of emergency -- use "voidtools Everything" instead.
(or "Search Everything" / Everything Search" ; as long as people get the idea)
BTW: In my native language (not English) "Everything" really stands out. No confusion possible
Re: Rebrand
(I'm of the opinion that everything is Everything & for anyone who does not know what Everything is, then they certainly do not know everything & they need to be taught, correctly, just what Everything is.
As far as changing the name to some void...search or whatnot, bla!
Heh.)

Re: Rebrand
I love everything about Everything, I don't want the name to change. And if you're too lazy to contextualize people on what you're talking about why bother bringing it up in the first place? If you google "everything" which is a very broad and generic term, the first results are all related to the app, I don't know what else someone could ask for, in terms of brand recognition.

Because there is Everything the program, Everything the default Filter in Everything the program and of course everything the word in accordance to dictionaries
If I my, I would suggest simply extending the name of software to something like Everything Finder or Everything Searcher - that would stop all confusion. For example with time ChatGPT would not have to be feed with
Code: Select all
everything freeware by void

Re: Rebrand
I think myself the existing name itself is a really nice one, a full all-round feeling and sense of familiarity; I think its main problem is that because it's an ordinary word it won't be found with a simple google so verbally you have to explain to people a bit more about finding it e.g. void everything. In most cases though I'm sure a link suffices, especially as you want to give people the alpha release. I guess if explaining to people over the phone for support you'll need to say "click the orange magnifier by the clock" rather than "pull up Everything" but "Search in Everything" suffices.
My own feeling is that despite a few shortcomings a rebrand isn't needed If there's a conflict with the Everything filter then perhaps that filter can be renamed to "No Filter" or something.
Perhaps there's a point about ChatGPT but I would think the context of the question would give it away, for example if you ask "How to search by modified date in Everything" it understands correctly.

What about "voidtools' Everything"?

Re: Rebrand
no need IMO. I often refer to it as "Everything by voidtools"
